Somehow I've always got a lot of email about the "Cockroaches as Pets" page (now taken down) I've been interviewed for East Coast term papers about my experiences with cockroaches, sent pictures of other Internet denizens' pet roaches, and generally had a good time with the experiences generated from the pages about those four silly Hexapods who lived with me a few years ago.
None of this particularly prepared me for the email I got May 19, 1999, from a French production company. They were planning an exposé about cockroaches, and wondered how passionately I felt about them. It was excellent timing, as you'll see, but I feel somehow I've failed their litmus test regarding my fervor for these insects despite all my forays into Photoshop I've done to prove otherwise.
Even though it appeared, quite quickly after their initial correspondence with me, that I wouldn't win the free trip, this inquiry has provided me a lot of inspiration!
Subject: Passion for cockroaches
I saw your page on internet and it interested me.
I'm working in a French society of production of international documentaries.
We're working on a serie about insectes (we've already made one documentary about fleas, one about mites and one about flies) and now we're preparing a documentary about cockroaches.
In our films, we talk about the insecte of course, but also about scientifics, who work on the insecte and people, who have a passion for it.
And it seems you have a passion for the cockroaches. That's why I would like to know if you are really passionned or if the cockroaches were just a gift for you, as you said, because you could be one of part of our documentary.
I thank you to answer me.
