Versie Lounsbury, 1904 — 1979

NEW LONDON — Mrs. Versie Doretna Lounsbury, 75, New London, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, December 23, at New London.

She was born January 21, 1904, at Sioux City, the daughter of Hiram and Kathryn Claus Pierce. She married Wilmer H. Lounsbury April 23, 1924 at Sioux City; he died April 11, 1967.

A graduate of Iowa Wesleyan college, she taught school for 35 years. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and LEA, both of New London; LAPM, at Fairfield, and the DUV at Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving: Daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Baker, New London; son, Donald, New London; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Kathryn Duettner, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Bertha Holt, Sioux City, and Ruth Vondark, Hinton; brother, Edward Pierce, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, Elliott chapel, New London, Reverend Walter E. Russell; Burge cemetery. A memorial for the New London school has been established.
